Oradea, the capitol city of Bihor county, is one of the important economic, social and cultural centers of north-western Romania. The city is holding on to these characteristics throughout its history. Oradea is nestled among hills that divide and unify the Crisana Plains and the hill-like limits of the Apuseni Mountains in a harmonious way. Located on the Crisul Repede River, which divides the city into almost equal halves, Oradea is the gateway to Central and Western Europe. Located about 10 km from Bors – the biggest border point on the western border – Oradea ranks tenth in size out of the Romanian cities.

Be picked up from your hotel by your guide as well as dropped back off at your hotel after your walking tour.

See Oradea Fortress, an architectural monument in Romania and one of the few functional castles till now. They say that the city could not be conquered because of the vast underground network of links with the outside. The dike with water of the fortress was filled in case of siege with thermal water (through supplies) from Peta spring. Today, inside the fortress was founded the Department of Visual Arts, University of Oradea. The construction belongs to King Ladislau I (1077-1095) who decided to build a monastery in honor of Virgin Mary, a place called Varad - Chronicle painted in Vienna (Chronicon pictum Vindobonensae) the cradle of the future Catholic bishopric. Around the old fortress, of an irregular shape, slightly oval, the new fortress was built , of pentagonal shape, to protect the buildings inside and the settlements around.

This tour will allow the tourists to visit the most spectacular Gothic-style castle in Romania. Corvin Castle was built by the Anjou family on the site of a former Roman camp.
The castle served as a fortress until the mid-14th century when it became the residence of Transylvania's voivode, Iancu de Hunedoara (Ioannes Corvinus in Latin, Hunyadi in Hungarian).
Iancu upgraded the fortress transforming it into a stunning Transylvania castle.

We' ll pick you up from your hotel at 9 o'clock and then we'll go in direction of Corvin Castle - Hunedoara . We shall reach there after 4 hours.
The beautifully preserved structure features a sumptuous Knights' Hall, an impressive drawbridge, high buttresses, inner courtyards, a chapel and some 50 rooms resplendent with medieval art.
The castle's courtyard features a 100-ft. well dug into stone, in the 15th Century.Legend says that the wheel was dug by three Turkish prisoners who were promised freedom when job was done.It took them 15 years and 28 days to reach water.
Linked to this amazing place, there is a historical rumour that Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned in this castle’s dungeon for seven years, a period that made him go insane and turn to his darker thoughts.
A tour of the castle would take about one hour. On your way, you can see the Ladies’ Chamber with 19th century furniture, a really nice royal chapel, climb up the spiral staircase, see the Diet Hall, which is decorated with medieval flags, admire the Bear Pit and see the dungeon and torture chamber.
You can also climb to Capistrano Tower. There you can find the chamber where the monk Ioan of Capistrano lived. Also, in his room, you would see a gothic fireplace used in the middle of 15th century. All the other fireplaces specific to that medieval era were destroyed by upgrading works, as the modern way of heating the castle became available.
The Knight’s hall is also interesting. Here, you can see a small collection of armors and weapons and a Iancu of Hunedoara bust. This huge room was used for trials, questionings and sentencing the enemies of the royal court. Sometimes, during the questionings, people were tortured here. Also, under the Knight’s Hall, you can see the dungeon where Vlad the Impaler might have been imprisoned. On top of that, outside, you will see something called “the bear pit”. It is said that in this enclosure, two hungry bears were kept for people who were damned “to disappear”.
At the end of the visit you may drink or eat something at a restaurant situated in the vicinity of the castle.
The retour lasts other 4 hours.
At evening we shall drop you off at your hotel.
